Mission:
Prologue: Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow
Location: Joint Quarters
ON
Skye went to her assigned quarters, which reminded her more of a college dorm room than anything. There was one bed off by itself and two bunkbeds. The top bunk was clearly occupied.
She liked having space, but that wasn't going to be possible here. She considered the options. She could take the bed that sat off by itself, or the bottom bunk that had privacy screens and would feel like a blanket fort. She decided on the separate bed. She didn't need a lot of privacy as she wasn't planning on sharing it with anyone any time soon.
Her trunk and duffel bag were stacked in the middle of the room. She began to hum a tune as she moved them over to the bed. It was clean, but still smelled a little musty. Fortunately, she had a small air freshener. She spritzed a bit of honeysuckle over the mattress before pulling out her set of sky-blue sheets to make the bed.
She spread her MacLeod tartan quilt on top, identifying it as hers. Finally she pulled out her blue pillow. She'd long-ago learned that she needed to travel with her own pillow, just in case. Skye had a set of tartan sheets and pillowcases with a dark sky-blue quilt for variety. The blue matched the Clan MacLeod tartan and reminded her of the sky over the desert.
The small closet with a mirror held her three uniforms, two skirts and three blouses. She didn't need much, but it was better to have them and not need them than need them and not have them. She put the rest of her clothes in the two drawers that accompanied the closet. It was a good thing she traveled light. Otherwise, she'd have to store most of her things.
The top shelf in the bathroom was taken, so she put her things on the bottom, leaving the middle for whoever came last.
Normally, she liked to relax in her room, but that might not be possible, depending on her two roommates. She hoped her office would at least have a couch. It wouldn't be the first time she spent her off-duty time reading in her office. Or sleeping, if she got busy. She paused. Did she even have an office? She wasn't sure. There was a fairly new Astrometrics, but apart from that, she had no idea.
She walked around the room to get a feel for it. It wasn't much. It was clearly meant for sleeping only. Then again, there wasn't much room on the station for much. She still hadn't gone to meet the Captain, or had a look at her department. Or space. Or closet. On a station this small, she might just have a closet. Did they have Did the place have any large packing crates? That might be interesting to use.
She folded her duffel bag and put it in her trunk, then slid the trunk under the bed. She had a couple of prints and PADDs, but those would stay where they were for now. It was time to go walkabout and have a good look at the station and meet her new boss.
